As a Community Training Instructor/Direct Support Professional you will work with a small group of adults with developmental disabilities. You will supervise and support the participants to reach their goals and participate in activities. You will also provide direct support with daily living activities, which may include eating and hygiene needs, recreational and community volunteer outings. Your relationship with the program participants must be respectful, based on mutual trust, and within professional boundaries.   Full Time hours are M-F, 9:00-5:00.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist program participants in recreational, daily living skills and community volunteer outings
  • Assist individuals with their physical needs which may include eating, hygiene and/or transferring. 
  • Plan and conduct daily classes/activities and community volunteer outings with the participants
  • Transport program participants for activities to and from the program utilizing public transportation or Abilities United vans 
  • Train and supervise program participants through instruction, modeling and age-appropriate interaction
  • Recognize that each individual we provide services to has potential for lifelong learning and growth.
  • Teach functional skills (community living, social/recreational, motor, communication)
  • Collect and report data on participants' progress

Education: High School or equivalent required; BA/BS in psychology or related field preferred.
Experience: 1 - 3 years working with people with developmental disabilities.
Substitution: Combination of equivalent experience and education may be substituted for degree.

Certification: Standard First Aid with Infant, Child and Adult CPR (may be obtained post hire)
Other: Communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing; project a professional and positive image at all times. Valid driver's license and clean DMV Record. If driving private automobile on Abilities United business, must have valid automobile insurance and car registration on file with Human Resources.
